Any animal that has fangs and uses them to attack its prey, regardless of whether the animal is wild (such as lions, wolves, leopards and panthers) or domestic (such as domestic dogs and cats), is unlawful to eat. This is prohibited based on the hadith of Abu Hurairah, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,
“The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam forbade eating every wild animal that has fangs, and every type of bird that has hooves for gripping.” (HR. Muslim no. 1934)
Fanged animals are included as wild animals, as explained in the hadith above.
The prohibition of fanged animals can also be taken from the Al-Quran’s statement regarding the haraam of animals that die because they are attacked by wild animals, even if the animals are basically halal, such as goats or cows.
In wild animals there is a vicious nature where they like to kill others.
By prohibiting wild animals, it means that Islam has given respect to humans so that they do not have characteristics like those animals.
Apart from that, wild animals are considered dirty and disgusting so their food is also prohibited in Islamic law.
In the verses of the Koran, it is explained that what is forbidden in Islam are items that are basically dirty, filthy and disgusting.
