In a hadith from Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu ‘anhu, Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,

إِذَا قَرَأَ ابْنُ آدَمَ السَّجْدَةَ فَسَجَدَ اعْتَزَلَ الشَّيْطَانُ يَبْكِى يَقُولُ يَا وَيْلَهُ – وَفِى رِوَايَةِ أَبِى كُرَيْبٍ يَا وَيْلِى – أُمِرَ ابْنُ آدَمَ بِالسُّجُودِ فَسَجَدَ فَلَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَأُمِرْتُ بِالسُّجُودِ فَأَبَيْتُ فَلِىَ النَّارُ

“If a child of Adam reads the verse on the prayer mat and then prostrates himself, Satan will walk away from him while weeping. Satan will say: “Woe is me. The son of Adam was told to prostrate, and he prostrated, so he was in heaven. Meanwhile, I myself was ordered to prostrate, but I was reluctant, so I deserve hell.” (HR. Muslim no. 81)
