P020. Prophet Muhammad liked to drink milk

 

“Whoever eats food given by Allah, he should pray: ‘Allahumma baarik lana fiihi (O Allah, bestow blessings on us in this food). And whoever drinks the milk gifted by Allah, he should pray: Allahumma baarik lana fiihi, wa zidna minhu (O Allah, give us blessings in this milk and grant us more from this milk) because I do not know anything that can replace food and drink more than milk” (HR. Abu Daud 3245, Ibnu Majah 3321).

“I don’t know of anything sufficient for food and drink other than milk.” (HR. At-Tirmidhi).

He also said, “Allah always reduces disease with medicine, so drink cow’s milk, because it (cow) eats from every tree.” (HR. Ahmad).

In fact, it is explained in the hadith that milk is a cure for an illness. Therefore, the Prophet called on the Ummah to consume milk for the health of their bodies.

Another piece of evidence that explains that milk is a healing medicine is this hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, “Drink cow’s milk, because the milk is medicine, the fat is healing, and the meat is a disease.” (HR. At-Tirmidhi).

مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَآ أَنْهَٰرٌ مِّن مَّآءٍ غَيْرِ ءَاسِنٍ وَأَنْهَٰرٌ مِّن لَّبَنٍ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُۥ وَأَنْهَٰرٌ مِّنْ خَمْرٍ لَّذَّةٍ لِّلشَّٰرِبِينَ وَأَنْهَٰرٌ مِّنْ عَسَلٍ مُّصَفًّى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَٰلِدٌ فِى ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَآءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَآءَهُمْ

Maṡalul-jannatillatī wu’idal-muttaqụn, fīhā an-hārum mim mā`in gairi āsin, wa an-hārum mil labanil lam yatagayyar ṭa’muh, wa an-hārum min khamril lażżatil lisy-syāribīn, wa an-hārum min ‘asalim muṣaffā, wa lahum fīhā ming kulliṡ-ṡamarāti wa magfiratum mir rabbihim, kaman huwa khālidun fin-nāri wa suqụ mā`an ḥamīman fa qaṭṭa’a am’ā`ahum

(What is) the parable of (the inhabitants of) Jannah promised to the pious people in which there are rivers of water whose taste and smell do not change, rivers of milk whose taste does not change, rivers of delicious wine its taste to the drinker and rivers of filtered honey; and they obtain in it all kinds of fruits and forgiveness from their Rabb, the same as those who remain in hell and are given to drink boiling water that cuts off their intestines? (QS. Muhammad: 15)
